Pedagogic organisation

The school is conform to the standards of the French education Ministry, obligation linked to the homologation by this Ministry, under the local control of the Cultural Councillor of the French Embassy, Academic inspector, and in co-operation with the French education system inspector residing in Berlin.
This school will be hosted by a Slovak public school and will be under a convention joining together local authorities, the managing body associating parents and companies and the French Embassy.

Pre-elementary section (opened in September 2002)

It welcomes children from 2 to 6 years old. The teaching is given by a French speaking graduated Slovak teacher. The number of weekly hours is set during the creation of the timetable. It includes activities in French which are conformed to the French program and an initiation in Slovak.

Elementary section (from September 2003)

It will welcome children from 6 to 11 years old on 5 different levels (with a system of a unique class). The teaching will be given by a French teacher from the French education Ministry. The number of pupils will allow the teacher to perfectly adapt her teaching to the level of each child.
In addition to the compulsory program, the French speaking Slovak teacher of the school will give Slovak language lessons for 3 or 4 hours per week according to the language skills of the pupils. Moreover, courses in another foreign language will be given.

Secondary school section

The French school of Bratislava in co-operation with the French Institute of Bratislava will organise the French program of distant education for pupils in secondary school (between 11 and 15 years old). The children will study on the basis of courses given by the National Centre of distance education (CNED) and the exams will be corrected by teachers in France. The warranty of this system allows pupils to re-integrate a French school in France or abroad in the best conditions possible. The pupils are under the responsibility of the French tutor and have to conform to his instructions (scholar behaviour, respect of the time table…)

High school

For the children who have good language skills in Slovak, there will be an existing opportunity to be accepted by the Metodova bilingual high school of Bratislava. The pursue of French curriculum will be possible in any French high school world-wide and especially in the Vienna French high school which has many vacancies for intern students thanks to its co-operation with the prestigious Austrian high school of the Theresianum foundation.

The timetable

The school is opened from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday with activities planned after the period of teaching hours .Two breaks will be planned: One of 30 minutes for a recess with a snack and another of 1 hour around 12.15 p.m. for the lunch break.

Leisure and sport activities

The French school will set up a non-compulsory leisure and sport program which children can join after the class from 3:30 p.m. to 4: 15 p.m. These activities will take place under the responsibility of one of the teachers.

As an example the following activities could be offered:

- Plastic Arts - Manual activities
- Judo - Typical Slovak dance
- Sports and games - Music

Administrative organisation

The project of the pre-elementary and the elementary classes was initiated by the Association for the development of relations between France and Slovakia supported by the French embassy, which permitted, in September 2002, to start a pre-elementary class within a Slovak public school situated on Cadrova street in Bratislava (Vinohrady-Kramaré).

An association is in the progress of being created in order to develop the project of the elementary class. This association brings together: parents, companies, associations and the French embassy.

The school fees, which can be paid on a 3 months basis, will be between 3000 and 4600 euros according to the levels of children. Pre-inscription fees will be collected.

The homologation of this section will be requested as soon as September 2003 to the French Ministry of education and to the Agency for the French Schools abroad (AEFE) of the French foreign Ministry. This procedure will guarantee the level of education given and will give the opportunity of a diploma recognition in any French schools world-wide.

Moreover, an agreement will be passed with the Vienna French Lycée in September 2003 in order to assure the formation of the French teacher and to provide pedagogic materials for the opening of the class.
